Farmers’ Willingness to Pay for Power in India: Conceptual Issues, Survey Results, and Implications for Pricing

The Asia/Pacific Research Center (A/PARC), in the Institute for International Studies, is an important Stanford venue, where faculty and students, visiting scholars, and distinguished business and government leaders meet and exchange views on contemporary Asia and U.S. involvement in the region. A/PARC research results in seminars and conferences, published studies, occasional and discussion papers, special reports, and books. A/PARC maintains an active industrial affiliates and training program, involving many U.S. and Asian companies and public agencies. Members of A/PARC's faculty have held high-level posts in government and business. Their interdisciplinary expertise generates research of lasting significance on economic, political, technological, strategic, and social issues. Rafiq Dossani is senior research scholar at A/PARC, responsible for developing and directing the South Asia Initiative. His research interests include financial, technology, and energy-sector reform in India. He is currently undertaking projects on business process outsourcing (with the support of the Sloan Foundation), innovation and entrepreneurship in information technology in India, the institutional phasing-in of power-sector reform in Andhra Pradesh, and security in the Indian subcontinent. He serves as an advisor to India's Securities and Exchange Board in the area of venture capital reform. His most recent book is Telecommunications Reform in India, published in spring 2002 by Greenwood Press.
